The 2011 Spring Stakes betting race has finally taken off after a bit of a slow start earlier in the day.

We predicted earlier in the week that there would be four main prospects in the race today and that’s exactly the way it’s panned out with any one of the quartet a potential favourite by the time the race jumps.

From there it’s a big gap back to the next pick so don’t expect the first four to be paying out too much today should it go in market order!

Let’s not waste any more time and jump right into the 2011 Spring Stakes betting & odds.

Current favourite according to the fixed price markets at Luxbet is Just The Tonic for Gai Waterhouse.

After starting off at $2.80 quote he drifted to $2.90 but since then he’s back in to $2.90 as the movement continues behind him.

Rekindled Alliance is the horse posing the biggest danger, he opened at $3.20 but has been easing now out to $3.40.

From there it’s Darci Be Good who’s the next pick, he’s at $4.00, that quote well in from an open at $4.40.

It’s the same story for Amidexter as well, he’s now at $4.20 following a $4.60 fixed price open.

Behind them if you’re looking for some value you can check out Boys On Tour who’s had a bit pf specking, he opened at $18 and is now into $15.

The other three have all been steady, Trapunto unmoved at $21, Taronga unmoved from $101 and Fortunefivehundred unchanged from a $41 open.

All of these Spring Stakes odds are courtesy of Luxbet, the bookie that guarantees better odds than all three TAB’s.

The 2011 Spring Stakes form guide at Newcastle might look like a fairly easy one to do at first given there’s only an eight horse field but in reality it could prove quite difficult.

Four of the runners loo somewhat inseparable in early betting markets so a deeper analysis of what they bring to the table is required.

We’ve decided to scratch the other four rivals in the race and concentrate on the main four we think will be battling it out come tomorrow afternoon.

2011 Spring Stakes Form Guide

Just The Tonic

He’s the early favourite for the race with Luxbet and who could blame him with an unbeaten record form two starts in his career. The first was at Canterbury where he won by nearly two and a half lengths before he came to Rosehill and got the job done across 1400m in a benchmark 70. It’s a step up in grade though today running against true black type horses and if he wants that record to stay intact he’ll need to be working hard.

Darci Be Good

He was beaten fair and square by Ambidexter last start so plenty may dismiss him on the back of that. To be fair though he was a little cramped off the bend and he’ll now doubt appreciate the step out to 1600m. He won the Listed Fernhill Handicap at that trip and being third run into his prep he’ll be fit enough to do it again. He’s a versatile horse and he’ll definitely be somewhere nearby at the death.

Ambidexter

With a last start win over Darci Be Good to go with his win previous to that this Snowden runner is in it up to his next. The question about him is the distance and whether he can stay but the Darley team seem to think so and for many that’s good enough. From gate three he’ll get a run and he’ll show a sight at the top of the turn.

Rekindled Alliance

Won on debut at Canterbury and last start just The Tonic only got him by a neck. All indicators are that he’ll handle the 1600m and if he does that he could well be the winner. If Just The Tonic is the favourite he certainly shouldn’t be too far away in betting himself, and at the end of the Spring Stakes he may have turned the tables altogether.

These are the top four for the 2011 Spring Stakes and why they should be somewhere close at the finish. Betting on the race is already open at Luxbet so if you want to get in early head across now and take the good odds.

Enter the code BONUSBET when you join and your first deposit will even be matched dollar for dollar!

The 2011 Spring Stakes field has assembled a handy group of three year olds with a cracker of a race sure to ensue at Newcastle this Wednesday.

It’s far from being the largest Spring Stakes ever run however there is enough talent in the field to make it worthy of its Group 3 status.

There’s little doubt the favourite for the race will come from the Peter Snowden yard with Amidexter winning so strongly last time out.

In that run he took care of Darci Be Good who was in outstanding shape before running into him last time out.

There’s also plenty of talk about the Gai Waterhouse entry Just The Tonic which at the moment is unbeaten from two runs.

Sure this may be a step up in grade but with two convincing performances on the board this campaign who’s to say he can’t take that next step.

Others well worth a mention in the 2011 Spring Stakes field include Rekindled Alliance for Paul Messara as well as the consistent if not brilliant Boys On Tour for John Thompson.

Remember that odds for the race will be open at Luxbet tomorrow meaning you can get in early and grab the best possible fixed price quotes before the big money starts to flow in.

That means you’ll be getting bigger payouts and guaranteeing your return rather than relying on often hard to judge tote prices.

New Luxbet members also qualify for e free bet matching their initial deposit as well so head to the website and type in the code BONUSBET today!

Uxorious has produced a spectacular win in the 2011 Spring Stakes at Morphettville last Saturday August 6, 2011.

The six-year-old gelding won the $115,000 Spring Stakes by two lengths ahead of Periduki, who finished in second, and Valentine Miss, who finished in third.

It was the first Group level horse racing win for Uxorious’ trainer Matthew Williams.

“A Listed win was the best I had previously, so a Group 3 is fantastic,” Williams said.

“We were pretty confident he was going to win the Bletchingly, so we were pretty disappointed (we had to scratch him), but this makes up for it.”

Williams will now target Uxorious at the 2011 Listed Testa Rossa Stakes on Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day on September 24, 2011.

“We’ll probably go to the Testa Rossa, He has a lot of issues, so you’ve just got to work around them,” Williams said.

The 2011 Spring Stakes was won by Uxorious in a time of 1 minute and 13.66 seconds.

Six-year-old Rebel Raider has come out of retirement in order to attempt to win back-to-back Spring Stakes titles at Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday August 6, 2011.

The Reset entire has been out of work for almost a year after fracturing a bone in his leg last year.

“He fractured a sesamoid in the Makybe Diva (Stakes) at Flemington last year and the vets advised us that was it for him because it was such a bad injury,” Co-trainer Andrew Gluyas said.

“The horse was on the breeding merry-go-round there for a while before the owners decided to put him back into work.

“They wanted to see if he could sustain being kept in training and he’s done that now up to this point.

“He’s done enough concussion-type work to say that the injury isn’t going to worry him again.”

Gluyas is confident that Rebel Raider is mentally prepared for the 2011 Spring Stakes, it is just his horse racing form that is in question.

“Mentally, all the indications are that he is ready to go but ultimately racing’s always going to be the judge of that.

“It’s going to be an interesting day because it’s always good to get a genuine Group horse back at the races.”

Grahame Begg’s colt Ilovethiscity once again proved their class when overcoming a wide barrier draw to claim victory in today’s Group 2 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle.

Coming off an eye-catching third to Toorak Toff in the Group 1 Golden Rose, three-year-old Ilovethiscity started as the punter’s clear favourite in the 2010 Spring Stakes despite their wide barrier 15 draw.

Ilovethiscity, ridden by Glen Boss, made a late charge on the home straight after sitting well back in the field early on as Zakumi set a blistering pace.

With 250m to go Ilovethiscity moved up on the outside and took the lead at the 150m mark, beating the Peter Snowden-trained Giresun to the line by a length with John Thompson’s smart filly Heartsareforlove in third.

Ilovethiscity (Magic Albert x Kensington Rose) has now won two of their seven career starts and is heading towards the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on October 9.

Following the Newcastle Spring Stakes, betting on the 2010 Caulfield Guineas has been momentarily suspended at Sportsbet, with the quote on Ilovethiscity sure to shorten.

Now is the perfect opportunity to sign up with SportsBet to ensure the next race you bet on is at the best possible price!

While the action in metropolitan Sydney and Melbourne may be hotting up, horse racing fans and punters should not forget about the upcoming Spring Stakes at Newcastle.

Scheduled to jump on September 15 at the Broadmeadow Racecourse, the Spring Stakes is an exciting event for three-year-olds at set weights. So if you want to work out where’s best to place your punt then head to Sportsbet now!

Taking place over 1600 metres, the Newcastle Spring Stakes offers a prize purse of $175,000 to the successful runners.

One emerging three-year-old looking to use the Newcastle Spring Stakes as a stepping stone this spring is Levi’s Choice. The Galileo colt had a solid Winter campaign with notable achievements including a second-place finish in the Group Two QTC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

The 2010 Newcastle Spring Stakes is lining up to be the three-year-olds second proper jump after the Listed Ming Dynasty (1400m) on September 4 – so keep an eye on that one at SportsBet.

Trained by John Thompson, Levi’s Choice is being targeted for the $300,000 Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) on October 2 at Randwick.

Thompson has nominated the three-year-old for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas on October 9, but that will depend on how well the colt runs in his lead up races.

So if you are looking to get in on the action down on the tracks this spring, make sure you sign up with SportsBet in order to get the most out of the racing!
