Red Eclipse Claims Upset 2015 Spring Stakes Win

August 10th, 2015

The Grant Young-trained Red Eclipse has made a perfect transition to black type racing at Morphettville over the weekend; producing an impressive turn of foot to see off a talent-rich field in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1200m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Sigrid Carr settled the Red Dazzler gelding in prime position within the field of eleven; receiving an ideal run in transit off the pace of the race’s early leaders who set a fair tempo early.

Arriving on the final straight with a clear racing line, Red Eclipse immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by Carr; comfortably reaching the Spring Stakes’ leading pack before extending to hit the line close to two lengths in the clear.

Carr delivered a great ride on Red Eclipse for success in the 2015 Spring Stakes and was quick to lay all the praise on her talented mount after crossing the line.

“It was actually a pretty soft win in the end,” Carr said.

“He felt really good when I asked him to go.”

Young was equally thrilled with Red Eclipse’s performance in the 2015 Spring Stakes and is confident his decision to take the horse to recent mid-week races was key in the success.

“He’s a very fit horse,” Young said.

“I thought he could do that. We’ve been aiming him at this race for a very long time.

“I brought him here as a companion horse (mid-week). I just wanted to do something to stimulate him and have him thinking before this race.”

Posting nine wins and as many minors through 38 career starts so far, Red Eclipse returned this time for consecutive third place finishes in a pair of South Australian minor sprints in May before taking out each of the James Boag’s Handicap (1200m) and Novelle Foods Handicap (1200m) in June.

Continuing to impress through his next few starts, the gelding out of Rosendahl won the Allie Umoff BM82 (1250m) only one week prior to the Spring Stakes.

Punters who backed Red Eclipse to win the 2015 Spring Stakes with leading online bookie have been paid out on generous $26 for success!
