Just ten runners remain in the final field for Wednesday’s Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
Yet to be defeated in two race start, Godolphin runner Sweynesse has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in Newcastle Spring Stakes betting markets, currently available at odds of $2.80, ahead of High Above ($4.40) and Monteux ($6) at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will Sweynesse justify favouritism and win the 2014 Newcastle Spring Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Hampton Court ($10)
Performing well in minor two-year-old events through the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Hampton Court arguably offers punters the best value for money in Newcastle Spring Stakes betting markets and is offered a great chance of maiden black type success from barrier 6 with in-form hoop Tommy Berry confirmed for the ride. Debuting with a strong run for second behind Group 1 placed runner Brazen Beau in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m) on February 5th, the Redoute’s Choice colt was unable to handle the heavy-going when seventh in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) on March 1st, but broke through for a maiden race win in the Tal Beaumont 2.y.o Handicap (1400m) on March 19th. Disappointing when beating a single runner to the line in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) first-up on August 16th, Hampton Court displayed a keen turn of foot to finish third in the TAB Early Quaddie 3.y.o (1400m) last time out and is more than worth consideration for a bet in Newcastle Spring Stakes markets.
Allocated the slight wide-of-centre barrier 7, Sweynesse has so-far registered a perfect career start and is a great chance of figuring again in what will be his maiden black type appearance at Newcastle on Wednesday. Comfortably winning the Blue Gum Forest Plate (1400m) on debut on May 10th, the Lonhro colt never looked in doubt over the 1400m of the TAB Early Quaddie 3.y.o on August 30th, finding the line a comfortable length in the clear. Confirmed to be partnered by jockey Kerrin McEvoy for the second time competitively in the Spring Stakes, punter may find value in selecting Sweynesse in a Newcastle Spring Stakes Quinella or Trifecta bet.
High Above ($4.40)
Yet to finish outside the places in two career starts for trainer Anthony Cummings, High Above will also be lining up for her maiden black type appearance in the 2014 Newcastle Spring Stakes, but will carry in winning form after taking out the Testa Rossa @ Vinery Handicap (1400m) on August 27th by an impressive five lengths. Having finished third in the Daily Press Group Plate (1100m) in her only start prior to the impressive victory, the High Chaparral filly has been confirmed to be partnered by recently-crowned Sydney Premiership jockey James McDonald in the Newcastle Spring Stakes and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds.
