2010 Spring Stakes Provides Rebel Raider With First Win This Season

August 15th, 2010

Dual Derby winner Rebel Raider is on target for a strong 2010 Melbourne Cup campaign following an effortless win in his first jump this season in the $125,000 Group Three Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

The Reset offspring headed into the Spring Stakes as the hot favourite, and delivered to those who went with the odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Rebel Raider embarked on his spring campaign fresh and revitalised after a long period off the track, and returned to work with Clare Lindop in the saddle.

Lindop guided the strong Cup contender beautifully from the hot seat, keeping him slightly off the pace to power home down the final straight and claim the win by a length-and-a-quarter.

Co-trainers Leon Mcdonald and Andrew Gluyas are confident the five-year-old is in peak condition after overcoming a leg injury which ruled the early favourite out of the 2009 Melbourne Cup.

Rebel Raider is nominated for the 2010 Melbourne Cup and saw his odds come in from $31 to $21 at Ladbrokes.com.au after the superb race in Adelaide – so head to Ladbrokes.com.au now to make the most of the odds!

Prior to the jump, the 2010 Spring Stakes’ winner’s biggest competition in the odds was the William Smart-trained Silent Surround. The Face Value mare failed to make a strong impact in her return to the track this spring.

Finishing in second place with a strong run was five-year-old mare Xaieta, while the Darren Kolpin-trained Likable Will finished third.

While nothing has been confirmed, it looks as though Rebel Raider’s next jump could be in the $400,000 Group Two Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 4. So if you would like to follow the potential 2010 Melbourne Cup winner’s spring path then head to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best odds and markets!
