Rebel Raider & Silent Surround Lead 2010 Spring Stakes Final Field

August 12th, 2010

Melbourne Cup hopeful Rebel Raider and talented mare Silent Surround have emerged as the two pre-race favourites for this Saturday’s $115,000 Group 3 Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

After the Spring Stakes Nominations earlier in the week, just 10 of the original 18 entries have made the final field for the showdown this weekend.

There were a number of notable absentees including South Australian galloper Alcopop, the 2009 Melbourne Cup favourite coming down with a virus, and the Peter Moody-trained Avenue.

The 2010 Spring Stakes now looks to be dominated by two top gallopers including five-year-old Rebel Raider.

The locally trained Reset five-year-old is heading towards a run in the 2010 Melbourne Cup and is a top chance despite drawing the far outside barrier 10.

Sure to give Rebel Raider a run for their money is four-year-old mare Silent Surround having their first-up spring start.

Silent Surround, trained by William Smart, is coming off a solid hitout over 1000m at the track and having drawn well with barrier three is likely to be a favourite in the Ladbrokes.com.au betting markets.

Horses looking to cause an upset that could win at great odds through Ladbrokes.com.au are Likable Will, Xaieta and Lapel.

A number of other quality races are scheduled to run around Australia this Saturday including the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield where a star studded field including Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, Bart Cummings’ So You Think and Shoot Out will take to the track.

Other races worth a punt on this weekend are the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill.

No matter what horse you are backing or which race you fancy a punt on one thing remains the same, you shouldn’t bet at the TAB.
